Biking and Breakfast in Vancouver – Hub Restaurant

The Bike Route
Every sunny Saturday we try to jump on our bikes for a somewhat leisurely ride for an hour or so before stopping for brunch and then finishing the ride home. Last Saturday we chose a route from Coal Harbour, through the West End to Pacific Ave, over the Burrard Bridge, through Granville Island and then followed the Seawall all the way around Science World and the Plaza of Nations to Yaletown. It was a great route with lots to see and the ride up hill from the West End and over the Burrard Bridge is good exercise.  And with the separated bike lane (yes we are fans) it is no longer a scary ride.

Breakfast at Hub
Hub Restaurant and Lounge is located on Mainland Street in Yaletown. From the Seawall it is an easy walk or ride up two blocks through Aquarius Mews and Helmcken Park. There is a bike rack right in front and a decent size patio for sunny days. We sat on the patio and ordered a beer as a reward for the ride. Brunch is served at Hub until 2pm on weekends and holidays. The menu is small but has a decent selection and a few unique items like Prime Rib Hash and Raisin Bread French Toast. Jeff ordered his standard bacon and eggs (over medium, bacon crisp, brown toast). The eggs were good but the bacon was not crispy enough. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which was served in a way I had not seen before and was “very pretty”. Two small tortillas were deep fried and topped with black beans, onions, tomatoes and cheese. Poached eggs were set on top and drizzled with salsa verde and crumbled crispy bacon. I ordered the eggs medium and they were not but the breakfast was really good anyway. The potatoes were deep fried and crispy (Jeff’s favourite) and the shot of orange juice on each plate was a nice touch. Overall a good breakfast place.
