Dining in Vancouver – Preston’s New Menu Items
If you read our food blogs often you may know that we are fans of Preston’s which is located in the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel. The food is great and both the food menu and the drink menu offer good value. (Read our blogs from October and November). We do not write a blog every time we visit because we usually have our same favourite menu items – Prawn Gyoza and Seared Scallops appetizer (to share), Wild Mushroom Ravioli (for me) and the Pulled Pork Sandwich (for Jeff).
New Menu Items
This time we are writing because the other day Preston’s held a Tweet-up in conjunction with Granville Island Brewery to try out some potential new menu items and to taste some GIB beers. I tried the Robson Street Hefeweizen and the False Creek Raspberry Ales while Jeff stuck to the English Bay Pale Ale. The new menu items that Preston’s was testing included:
- Mexican Pulled Chicken Quesadilla with home salsa and avocado creme fraiche
- Proscuitto Flatbread Pizza with caramelized onion, arugula, red pepper and pear
- Wild Mushroom & Pulled Pork Pappardelle in a garlic cream sauce
- Lemon & Thyme Roasted Chicken Sandwich with tomatoes, pesto arugula and red onion
- Fried Spicy Shrimp Rolls with cucumber; breaded and served warm
Our favourites were the Pappardelle pasta and the rolls. The pulled pork in the pasta was very flavourful and the sauce was not too heavy. The shrimp rolls were coated with light breading and served warm which we liked. We look forward to trying both items again when they hit the new summer menu.
Another reason that we like Preston’s (besides from the good food, value and service) is that they use an online punch card as part of a loyalty program. The system is run by Reward Loop and your bill comes with a QR code on the bottom. You scan the code and it automatically fills in one box on your card for each $20 you spend. After you get 10 punches (or spend $200) you show the card to your server and receive a $20 gift card for your next visit (valid after 4pm). So really you are getting a 10% discount on $200. We have a small stash of cards built up already but will be using them this summer. We only wish that the patio at Preston’s could have a better view than the Canada Taxation Building!!
