Dining in Vancouver

Last Saturday, on the way to The Lions Game we stopped at Moxie’s on Georgia for a bite. We prefer to sit in the first floor lounge but it was already full with game-goers. The staff in the 2nd floor restaurant was very accommodating and knowing that we were in a hurry ensured that the food came quickly and the drinks flowed just as fast. While the service was good, I prefer the menu at the Cactus Club and the food was just average. The Lions beat the Roughriders and if we could just get BC Place to serve something other than Russell Cream Ale then the whole evening would have been a success. GO LIONS! Food – AVERAGE, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – AVERAGE

Crime Lab Restaurant opened a few weeks ago at the end of Denman at the start of Stanley Park. We ventured there on Tuesday night and were able to snag the last of the 6 or 8 outside tables that provide the best view of the people on the Seaside walk and the marina. The Portobello & Goat Cheese ravioli was small but delicious and the wine list offered a very appealing variety with lots of great choices. The menu presented interesting choices but not very many so we hope that they plan to change the menu on a regular basis or add nightly specials to ensure that regulars have a reason to come back frequently. If you go make a reservation as both the inside and outside seating areas are quite small. Food – GOOD, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – GOOD

Wanting to take advantage of the great September weather we decided to bike to Granville Island. This was my first attempt at biking over one of our many downtown bridges and I have to admit that the Burrard bridge was much easier to handle than it looks from down below. Fittingly we had lunch at Bridges Restaurant on Granville Island. It has the best patio location with views of Yaletown and all of the boating action on False Creek. The whole Lobster was enough to share for lunch and of course I enjoyed it even more because Jeff did all of the work. On the way back over the bridge as I looked down at all of the yellow umbrellas I wished I was still sitting there in the sun rather than gasping my way up the long side of the uphill climb. Food – GOOD, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – GREAT
