Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Day 10 & 11
Day 10 of the Vancouver Olympics
It what was the most anticipated event of these Olympics so far, of course we mean the final preliminary game between Canada and the USA. The winner would received a bye right to the quarterfinal, the loser would have to face Germany on Tuesday to move into the quarterfinal.
After it appeared we were not going to get in at the Kingston Pub on Richards based on the size of the line-up when we arrived, we moved on and decided to hike it back five blocks to Joe Fortes on Thurlow. The roof top patio, which was covered and only open for the Olympics in the winter months, was busy but we were able to quickly secure a table for eight.
The food as always was excellent, Tara had the the Seafood Chowder to start with the Sablefish as her main while Jeff had the Halibut Fish & Chips. Both of the dishes were cooked perfectly and the fish is always so fresh. One thing that really impressed us with Joe Fortes is the fact that they have not increased their food or beverage prices during the Olympics. For an upper end restaurant to keep their beer prices that same ($5.75 to $6.75) and not have the automatic gratuity on their bills really impressed us.
Not much to write here as the USA beat our Canadian Team 5 – 3. Brodeur did not look good in the game and we thought he might get the hook after the second American goal. He didn’t but Roberto Luongo has already been named the starter for the Tuesday game versus Germany. It is Luongo’s city, his dressing room and now his team. Time to prove he can win the big game!
After 10 straight days soaking up the Olympic environment today we stayed in and rested or rather worked on catching up with unreturned emails and phone calls we had missed. There was a moment we wished we were out on Robson Street, that of course was when Virtue and Moir claimed GOLD for Canada in Ice Dancing!
